Each Estimate you will be tasked to undertake is likely to have come to you in different forms. At one end of the scale you may be asked to respond to a detailed RFT (Request for Tender) provided by the customer or a consultancy firm and your Estimate task is relatively simple with most of the work already completed for you.
So no site inspections/surveys, the vendor and product solutions have been chosen, standards incorporated into the specification and even possibly a BOM (Bill of Materials) has been supplied.
This creates a more level playing field for Tender comparison but will limit Estimating creativity and innovation and the scope that competition can bring.
In this Preamble we are going to visit some of the broader considerations you as an Estimator may have to consider at the early stages of Estimating a project.

Your training will show you how to ensure due diligence of recommended equipment/vendor suppliers and solutions and finally project management, commissioning and establishing warranties.

Understand Work Scope
Your training will show you how your first duty is to understand the “Scope of Work”. The Scope of Work will explain the boundaries of the project , establish each team members responsibilities and set up procedures for verification and approval of completed work.

“Environmental Influencing Factors” & “Degree’s of Difficulty” (DoD)
Your training will show you that All Tenders and or Quotations will have a margin of error due to “Environmental Influencing Factors” and “Degree’s of Difficulty” (DoD)
This task will require you to assemble all specifications, design plan/drawings, site inspections/surveys, assuring plant, equipment, cabling, switch boards, vendor and product solution, systems applications such as Telecommunications, Etc and support, infrastructure design and that installation standards are applied.
